Scouts BSA Troop 1966 • Clear Lake / Nassau Bay
Adventure, leadership, service, and friendships.
Troop 1966 is built around a simple idea: boys grow when they are trusted with responsibility, supported by caring adults, and surrounded by friends who encourage them to try new things.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
Scouts help plan activities, lead meetings, and make real decisions. Leadership here isn’t something boys wait years to try; it’s something they learn by doing. Patrol leaders and the Patrol Leaders’ Council (PLC) help shape meetings, activities, and troop direction, giving Scouts real opportunities to practice leadership.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
Our leaders care deeply about helping Scouts grow. That means giving boys room to try, succeed, struggle, and sometimes fail safely, with trusted adults nearby to mentor and support. Older Scouts help teach skills and mentor younger Scouts, while adults step in to guide and support when needed.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
Troop 1966 values responsibility, leadership, teamwork, and respect, but we’re not a military-style program. Scouts are encouraged to lead, learn, make mistakes, and grow in a welcoming environment built on encouragement, accountability, and real experiences. We believe boys grow best when challenged, trusted, and supported, not intimidated.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
In a smaller troop, boys are known, encouraged, and given real opportunities to lead. Scouts don’t get lost in the crowd; they help shape the troop. Younger Scouts are noticed, older Scouts are trusted, and every boy has a chance to contribute.
Some of the best lessons in Scouting happen far from a classroom. Through outdoor adventure, service, leadership, and shared experiences, Scouts build confidence, friendships, and memories that last.
Campouts, canoeing, hiking, cooking, and outdoor skills that build confidence and independence.
Scouts grow by leading meetings, teaching skills, solving problems, and learning through real responsibility.
Service teaches Scouts to look beyond themselves and make a difference in their church and community.
Some Scouts come for the adventure, some stay for the friendships, and many discover both along the way.
Troop 1966 was founded with a simple goal: create a welcoming, youth-led troop where boys could grow through adventure, leadership, service, and friendship.
Proudly chartered by St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church in Nassau Bay, Troop 1966 benefits from a community that deeply believes in Scouting and enthusiastically supports the growth of young people. From campouts to service projects, the church has been an enthusiastic partner in helping Scouts try new things, grow in confidence, and give back.
Scouting looks different for every boy. Some Scouts pursue Eagle, while others are drawn to campouts, friendships, leadership, service, or simply trying new things. We believe growth matters more than checking boxes.
In just seven years, Troop 1966 celebrated its first three Eagle Scouts, lifelong friends who grew up together in Scouting from first grade through high school. Their projects strengthened the church that helped shape them, including a wood-fired pizza oven and gathering space, campus landscape and drainage improvements, and a redesigned livestream ministry area that better serves both volunteers and parishioners.
But Scouting is about far more than rank advancement and merit badges. Some boys stay for the adventure. Some stay for leadership. Some stay for Eagle. We think all of those are good reasons to Scout.
The best way to see if Troop 1966 is a good fit is to visit a meeting, meet the Scouts, and experience the troop for yourself. We’d love to meet you.
